We have sold 5 of the 7 building plots on the site for people to construct their own design of house. Included in the designs is a rare Bustin example of a Passivhaus. This only leaves the last 2 self-build plots to sell.
In addition there are also 2 ready build houses (one a 3 bedroom with garage and the other one a 2 bedroom property) available for sale, either on a ‘joint ownership’ basis or for outright purchase. All of the houses built by the LCT have very high levels of insulation and they are all heated by air source heat pumps. This arrangement means that they are all cheap to run as well as being cheap to rent or buy – truly affordable.
The village of Crosby Ravensworth is very rural but has easy access to the M6 at Shap and Orton (both approx. 6 miles). There are shops and post offices at Shap (4 miles) and Appleby which is 7 miles away. Penrith, at about 15 miles, is important for main line trains to the north and south of the country as well as being an important centre for larger supermarkets and an extensive range of shops. For rest and relaxation in the area there is an abundance of scenery all available through walking from the door as well as local history including the Iron Age fort at Ewe Close.
The community in Crosby Ravensworth is socially active with an interesting range of activities including pilates classes, play group, badminton, book club, cycling group, line dancing, old time dancing, Village Show, bi-monthly film nights, walking group, history society, etc.
There is also a thriving pub, The Butchers Arms, owned by the community. This is an important social hub and base for many of the local groups to meet in and use as a venue, including, Lyvennet Activity Group, a computer group, a weekly music group and a local photography group. The church was, recently, saved from redundancy and the Village Hall has been extensively modernised and extended. In addition the local primary school and private nursery go from strength to strength under new leadership this academic year.
