LGC Community Involvement Award Category

LGC Community Involvement Award Category
Projects to involve the community are central to the activities of local authorities, acting as a link between the council and its citizens to meet local needs. The government’s focus on the Big Society and the growing need to engage citizens as cuts bite places more emphasis than ever on this important topic.
A number of communities in the area have been selected as vanguards for the government’s Big Society agenda, and what lies behind their success has been a true partnership approach. The council has built up a habit of listening to and working with communities to achieve goals. It knows that communities have a clear sense of direction in what they want to achieve and its role is to help them overcome any barriers that stand in their way and to get projects delivered.
Eden DC has produced a short film entitled “Growing up in the garden of Eden” which will be shown at the awards ceremony and can be viewed by following the link:
The finalists across a number of categories will be announced at an event on 14th March 2012 at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London.
